For my 25th birthday, we stayed at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Old Town, San Diego. It has a beautiful second story wraparound balcony with the rooms on the 2nd floor, saloon & restaurant on the main level. It turned out to be one of my favorite bed & breakfasts. I felt like I journeyed back in time to the days of the Old West.
We stayed in the Seeley Suite (supposedly haunted). Our room had sliding pocket doors that connected the sitting room (with a fireplace) and the bedroom. The bathroom had a pull-chain toilet and claw-footed tub. There was no TV, just you & your company... left to fall asleep to the silence except for the creaking of old wood and whispers from ghosts. Just knowing I was sleeping in a room that was built in the 1800s made me feel like I was experiencing a part of the past. In the morning, breakfast was served on the veranda: scrumptious scones with jam & hot coffee. We ate while we enjoyed the charming scenery of historic Old Town & passersby from above.
During our stay in San Diego Old Town, we also visited the Whaley House - allegedly America's most haunted house. Though, we did not experience any ghost activity, the house itself is creepy and worth seeing. Maybe we'll get lucky next time.
