As we drove from the western side of the island, making our way to Pahoa, we made an impromptu stop at Whittington Park right off Hwy 11. It was a cute, small park with some picnic benches. The parking lot was crawling with furry felines whose eyes followed our every move. We walked around a bit and found an old, dilapidated pier. From there, we visited the beautiful black sands of Punalu‘u Beach, where two large sea turtles were resting on the shore.
I loved cruising along the highway. We were able to see so much more of this land of luscious green hills and coffee, exotic fruit, turquoise waters and constant rainbows.
